c.1950 Marx, No.2 Mechanical Speed Racer in Original Box
Superb clockwork tin litho #2 Mechanical Speed Racer by Marx. Driver's head is correct for this toy. Comes complete with original box. Clockwork vehicle with round grille, boat tail, attached key and large balloon tires. Body is primarily white with blue numerals and checkerboard, red lightning bolts, and yellow hood exhausts. Driver's head is the same used for the Marx Jumping Jeep plus several other toys. Tires are chocolate brown with red treads and markings. Front half of the underside is covered with red tinplate. The rest is left open showing the spring and clockwork mechanism. Also makes a loud clicking sound as it advances. Works beautifully! Box is printed with all text. Toy name on all four main panels. Manufacturer name and address also on the two larger panels. Trademark logos and toy name were printed on the endflaps. Box is an unusual copper red color. Size: 6¼". Sold: Aug. 2008
